This iteration of the ENH site arose out of design and usability sessions I led. It is a more usable,
cleaner site than its predecessor. My responsibilities on the ENH
site focused more on the technical end (implementing RSS, Google Mini search, iCalendar
support) and the application/e-commerce end. I was the lead developer on many of the site's applications,
including Health News, Maternity Preregistration, Classes & Events, and Schedule an Appointment; I oversaw
development and provided design specifications for Find a Doctor.
Developed at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare.
Inspired by 37signals' 37Better series, Better Chicago Card (tm) is a way in which I envision the CTA's Chicago Card working. For complete details, read this article at Gapers' Block. (A few months after I created this, the CTA released Chicago Card Plus, which does allow online recharging - but not much else.)
A collaborative site established in 2000. Ryan MacMichael and I write daily posts about almost anything on our minds, from television shows to politics to Oreos. Reader participation is the key. The site uses Serendipity on the backend; I created the logo and aesthetics, which are heavily modified templates in PHP/XHTML.
While the title is tongue-in-cheek, the blog isn't; it covers usability and design, largely from an end user's perspective. The core of the blog is a WordPress template but, the color scheme and logo are my own creation.
I designed the StartPoint credit and debit cards, aimed at teens. These designs served as a springboard
to a larger rebranding for Meadows Credit Union's credit and debit card lines. In addition while the current
StartPoint site is not my design, the StartPoint logo is the identity I designed in 2001, and
the ATM game on this page is also
my work.
Developed at Meadows Credit Union (MCU).
Designed interface wireframes and mockups, shown on the CTS site,
for the Case Tracking System for Children's Advocacy Centers. My goal was to create a stripped-down interface
highlighting pertinent information on-screen and providing a narrative for each case.
I also designed and developed the mini-site for CTS.
Developed at Network Ninja.
The web's leading site for news on equality for fat people, Big Fat Blog is running
Drupal 5 with many modules and customizations. Friend lists, favorites, forums, and
an events calendar make the site more supportive of the large community which has
built up around Big Fat Blog.
BFB has been featured in The New York Times, MSNBC, the Chicago Tribune,
Marie Claire, and Australia's The Age, among others. BFB averages over
80,000 unique visitors per month, has over 2200 registered members, and is beginning
to solicit advertisers.
Big Fat Index was launched in 2006 to serve as a compendium of links for fat people. Blogs and podcasts are spotlighted. The site uses phpLinkDirectory along with a modified style to match Big Fat Blog.
